Installing And Using A Wireless Network Pc Card

Computers change year to year. What was new and good last year is old news this year. Does this mean it no longer has any worth? Worth is in the eye of the owner. New editions of Windows have come out over the years, recently from Windows Vista to Windows 7, and while computer companies promise the new versions have the most to offer, some people want the XP version. It's okay to run with Windows XP, but there are things you must do to keep your computer compatible with the rest of the world. It's likely that your older notebook does not have wireless network configuration built in. This is not a problem if you invest in a Wireless Network Pc Card.

A Wireless Network Pc Card adapter is about the size of a credit card. It contains a WiFi antenna which allows your notebook computer to connect wirelessly from any location that offers WiFi to the general public. On your notebook you should be able to find a little slot to slide the Wireless Network Pc Card into. When plugged in, the card will stick out slightly to enable the WiFi to transmit from the network to your PC, freely. When not in use, you simply eject the card to protect it. Be sure and store it somewhere convenient.

Laptops are not the only computers that make use of Wireless Network Pc Cards. With an older desktop model, a card can be purchased and installed inside of the computer. Unlike the laptop, it will not simply slide into a slot on the outside. Keep this is mind when you are considering buying an older version PC, but want to be able to connect it to a wireless network. Once you have installed a Wireless Network Pc Card, you then can continue to set up the network configuration. If there are any problems, your computer should give you the option of troubleshooting. If you have no previous knowledge of setting up a wireless network through an adapter or a bridge, refer to Microsoft for more help. You should be surfing the web through a local wireless network in no time at all.
