What's In A Wireless NetworkTechnology can be intimidating. Most people are not inherently afraid of new technology or how to use it. People just want things to work. When you plug in your TV and hook up your cable, it just works. When you flip the light switch, the lights just come on. Due to the popularity of the internet and broadband service, computer technology is becoming as simple and user friendly as TV. Most people don't know the names of the various types of hardware that they use, but they know how to do network configuration through use of the setup wizard in their operating system. The basic hardware necessary for setting up a home network would be a broadband modem and a wireless router. Installation is rather simple if you follow the setup wizard. Because wireless home networks are so common now, a lot of people are learning how to set up a Wireless Network Bridge. A bridge is simply a device that allows two or more networks to connect. For an ethernet connection, a bridge is quite distinct. A Wireless Network Bridge can be a bit confusing, just because it is very similar to a wireless access point. In fact, to most of us there isn't much difference at all, except perhaps cost. The most common use of a Wireless Network Bridge is for devices that have an ethernet port but no way to communicate with a wifi network. Because 802.11 has become ubiquitous, most of our devices have some sort of wireless NIC integrated so there isn't often a need for a Wireless Network Bridge because an access point will accomplish the same goal. A Wireless Network Bridge is a very easy, practical, and in most cases inexpensive way to connect multiple LANs or to extend the range of your existing WLAN. They are quick to set up and configure for all your devices which also makes them ideal when choosing to set up your own voice and data network. All of this networking and creation of wifi networks means that there is an increased need for network monitoring and security. There are plenty of network tools available for free download that can provide decent security for your home network.
